As some states consider moving up their primary dates, the RNC is considering harsher punishments; the current punishment is that only half of the delegates will be seated. If those states move their primaries before March 6th, they could lose their VIP guest passes and guest privileges could be revoked (Source). John Ryder, Republican national committeeman from Tennessee, notes that this will hurt the ability of state parties to reward donors (i.e., the people you want to keep happy). Florida is the most egregious culprit, with their primary date currently set for January 31st (Source). This is significant, because Iowa and New Hampshire are currently scheduled for early February. If Florida does not change their primary date by October 1st, it is likely that Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and S. Carolina will move their primary dates to January.
