Today was my first trip to “The Birthplace of Texas” - Independence Hall at Washington on the Brazos - where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed on March 2, 1836. The first Constitution of Texas was also written on this site. Washington served as the capital of the provisional government in 1836 and later as capital of the Republic in late 1842 (which is part of another Texas history tale).
