In which Donald Trump provides a teachable moment. Despite what Mr Trump may or may not remember, our embassy in Libya has been attacked before. In December 1979, the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli was attacked and burned, after which all U.S. personnel were withdrawn (Source). Libya was also involved in assassination attempts on U.S. diplomats and embassy personnel (Source). So yes, our embassies and officials were attacked under Gaddafi.
