Cancelling Civilityfest 2012
Pastor Rick Warren is apparently cancelling his forum, which was to be a repeat of his 2008 affair with John McCain Barack Obama.
Warren pulled the plug on this year’s forum, explaining that the current negative campaign is opposite to what the church’s civil forum is about…
“I’ve never seen more irresponsible personal attacks, mean-spirited slander, and flat-out dishonest attack ads, and I don’t expect that tone to change before the election.”
Whenever I read this kind of pap, it makes me heave a huge sigh. Does Pastor Warren think 2008 was not negative? Furthermore, I get tired of hearing about how this year is the most negative campaign ever (which is said every election year).
The campaigners of 1828 might beg to differ, since one’s candidate’s wife was accused of being a bigamist with no innuendo or subtlety.
And then in 1800, Jefferson’s supporters accused Adams of being a “hideous hermaphroditical character, which has neither the force and firmness of a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman,” while the Adams camp said of Jefferson, “a mean-spirited, low-lived fellow, the son of a half-breed Indian squaw, sired by a Virginia mulatto father.”
So, please tell me again how mean-spirited and slanderous Romney’s and Obama’s attacks are.
