Today marks the 176th anniversary of the beginning of the Siege of the Alamo. The siege lasted for 13 days and most of the Alamo’s defenders died during the battle (their remains are interred at San Fernando Cathedral, San Antonio, TX). Above is a painting of the battle, which hangs in the Texas Senate chamber. The other portraits are of James Bowie, David Crockett and William B. Travis.
